Sunday, October 6th. It is day 2 on the cruise in Quebec city. We had a great day yesterday. Breakfast was in Tuscan grill. We both got the smoked salmon plate with the mini bagel and coffee. We watched sail in yesterday morning. As we approached the city we could see Montmoncery Falls in the distance from our balcony.
The weather was cloudy and rainy yesterday. We decided to go out to Montmoncery Falls early in the day when it was supposed to stop raining. I had researched how to get there ahead of the cruise. There are many tours and ship excursions that will take you there, but we prefer to do excursions on our own when we are able. They have uber in Quebec city, but not lyft. We were easily able to get an uber to Parc Montmoncery and we asked him to drop us off at the cablecar at the bottom of the falls. You can also get picked up and dropped off at the top of the falls.
A blogger I followed before the cruise suggested buying tickets for the cablecar and/or ziplining ahead of the visit on the Sepaq website. I looked ahead on the website, but I also discovered I could purchase the ticket just as cheap on Get your guide so I purchased our passes there which included the cable car.
The attendent scanned our tickets when the uber entered the kiosk for the parking entrance. There is a visitor center and many observation opportunities. You can walk pretty close to the bottom of the falls and there are stairs if you wish to climb to the top. There are also many hiking and walking trails and the fall leaves were beautiful yesterday.
We took the cable car to the top of the falls. You have to check in and get an armband to do this. It was different than I expected. There were no seats like a traditional gondala, and I lot of people were in 1 car. It was a beautiful view on the way up to the falls.
Once at the top we walked a short walk to the observation deck at the top of the falls and the suspension bridge over the falls. The view from the observation deck was my favorite view. You could also watch the zipliners come across from the other side and land at this location.
We decided that it looked easier to call the uber to pick us up from the top vs. taking the cable car back down. It was less traffic for parking. We did not have a very long wait for a car to pick us up. They were dropping off passengers at the same time.
We decided to head to a brewery next. We like visiting and seeing different breweries when we travel as a way to experience local culture. They speak mostly french in Quebec city so they are called Brasseurs or Brasseuries. The brewery was quaint and their icon was based on cats. We each ordered a beer at the bar.
Another thing on my list for Quebec city was to get poutine. Quebec is known for it’s poutine and is thought to be where the dish now popular in the rest of Canada origonated. I had researched the top poutines in Quebec city online. We decided to go to Poutineville because they offered a wide variety of poutine’s to choose from. I had looked on google maps and we could easily walk to a Pouitineville location from Noctem. We ended up splitting the medium portion of the cheeseburger poutine. It was quite tasty with a nice blend of flavors and sauces.
I checked on google maps and we could walk to La Barberie brewing from Poutineville so we headed that direction and split a flight of 3 taster beers. Origonally we were going to do a beer walking tour in the San Roche area available on Get your guide, but I cancelled it. It was only available for day 2 and ended too close to our boarding time. I decided we would do a version of the brewery tour on our own. It is easy to do when you can walk to other breweries or take an uber.
The third and final brewery of the day was Greindel. We each got a beer at this location and played 7 rounds of UNO which we started playing again at breweries over the summer, along with Rummy. After Griendel, we decided to head back to the ship for the night. After looking at the dining room menu, we decided we would eat dinner upstairs in the buffet last night. As usual, I got a mix of fish and indian food and also tried a pasta dish. I don’t always like the buffet, but I was pleased with the food quality this week on this ship!
We visited a few bars and listened to live music and then ended the night watching a movie in our cabin. It was a good day.
